Snow Arc Guards™
Custom Roof Shapes - Guide
Need a Roof Layout, Quote, or Order?
Need a Roof Layout, Quote, or Order?
Owners of Stile Spanish Tile roofing systems who are new to measuring roof surfaces or users who desire clarity on what level of accuracy the Roof Calculator's Autogenerated Layouts requires.
Snow Arc Guard™ products are designed to be installed using either an autogenerated layout or a custom Sands Works layout. Installing without a layout risks warranty eligibility for under-designed layouts.
This guide is organized in the following manner:
List of roof section shapes supported by the calculator:
Rectangle
Triangle
Trapezoid
Left-sloped
Right-sloped
Two-sloped
List of roof section shapes that require custom layouts:
If your roof section touch a valley in your roof, you will need custom layout(s) for your trapezoids. Example shapes are shown below along with the process to get a custom layout.

Targeted Layouts Example of Targeted Coverage Layout Submission
Examples of roof section shapes being quoted with the Snow Arc Guard™ Calculator App and what a custom resulting layout typically looks like after Sands Works has performed Technical review.
Level of accuracy required to be valid.
The example written below are based on the image to the right. There are four surfaces that require custom layouts due to roof valley geometries.
There are two right-sloped trapezoids that require the sloped portion to be inverted to fit in the valley. The same inversion of the slope is true for the single left-slope trapezoid. There is an inverted triangle that also requires a custom layout.
The blue path shows how to calculate a standard rectangular shaped roof section.
The full width of the eve is shown to be 739" or 61'-7". note how the measurement was then placed in the Roof section calculator's 'Width' input field.
The panel length on the blue rectangular shaped roof section is shown to be 191.5" or 15'-11.5". note how the measurement was then placed in the Roof section calculator's 'Panel Length' input field.
The last input for blue rectangular shaped roof section is the roof pitch. See two ways to measure the roof pitch here: Roof Pitch.
A layout then generates, ready to use.
The orange path in only for the left-most right-slope trapezoid. If you follow the path, you can observe the natural workflow for custom layouts:
Measurements of the right sloped trapezoid roof sections include:
Width
Ridge length,
Panel length
Roof pitch
Adjacent roof surface's pitch.
Measurements are entered into the App's calculator.
Since this trapezoid needs its sloped section inverted to match the valley's slope angle, the user must mark the checkbox "My roof contains valleys, dormers. . . or complex geometry". and then submit their quote request and wait for Sands Works to provide an update layout.
Sands Works will provide something similar to the layout shown at the bottom left of the image.
Once this layout is provided, your cart will be updated and ready for checkout. Once your parts arrive, you can install according to the custom layout.
For custom shapes such as the inverted triangle, select a shape that most closely resembles the unique section you require a custom layout for. For this case, you would do the following:
Select a triangle shape & give it a Section Name starting with "Custom".
Enter in the width as 181.5" and the panel length as 191.5".
Submit with your other layouts and wait for a custom layout from Sands Works.
The Snow Arc Guard™ Roof Calculator uses the measurements you provide to generate your roof layout. Taking a few extra minutes to measure carefully will help ensure the generated layout closely matches your roof.
For most residential roofs, measurements should be as accurate as reasonably possible. We recommend measuring to the nearest 1 inch whenever practical. If you are unable to reach an exact inch, measurements within approximately ±2 inches are generally sufficient for most roof sections. If a measurement is difficult to obtain, measure it a second time to verify your results or round up an inch.
Before submitting your order, review each roof section and confirm that the roof shape, width, panel length, ridge length (when applicable), roof pitch, and other required measurements have been entered correctly. Small measurement differences are usually accommodated by the layout process, but larger errors or selecting the wrong roof shape or roof pitch may result in an incorrect layout.
If your roof contains hips, valleys, dormers, multiple roof pitches, or other unusual geometry, select the Technical Review option when submitting your order. Sands Works will review your measurements and layout conditions before approving your order.
Taking accurate measurements helps ensure the generated layout matches your roof and supports eligibility for coverage under the Snow Arc Guard™ Limited Warranty. If you are unsure about any measurement, contact Sands Works before placing your order.
Measure your roof sections and use the Snow Arc Guard™ Calculator App to create layout patterns. If the roof has unusual geometry or you are unsure how to enter the measurements, request help before ordering or installing by emailing snowarcguards@sandsworks.com.
